Becoming Bat Boy

I have since worked more on this little gremlin! Using Citadel black primer I spray painted his head black and mapped out where I want to root his hair and where the ears will go and used a Dremel to drill them. The paint showcases all his dents and scratches, but that doesn't matter to me; it adds more character.
Before painting the feet I used Apoxie Sculpt to form lips around which the legs can be tied.
And last but not least I sewed his wings and ears! I used black velveteen and some gray linen I had lying around in the scrap bin, which I will also be using for his body. I have yet to decide if I want to put felt or batting in his wings to help stabilize them, but for now I just cut some jewelry wire to help them keep their shape.
The next steps I have planned are painting his face and working on the hair, but I have some paintings I need to work on in the meantime Until then!

White-Haired Thing, Stealer of Souls

Browsing internet auctions I came upon this buddy. While the delightfully absurd photo caught my eye and gave me a chuckle I didn't bid, not for two whole weeks I think, and then I decided to just go ahead and, ta daa! It arrived it the mail yesterday and I was surprised when I opened the box because I honestly forgot I bought the thing...
My first course of action was to forcibly rip the hair off, which was yarn glued to the crown of the head, and also to cut the clothes off which were sewn on with no snaps or buttons to be able to remove safely. No matter, I wasn't planning on salvaging any of that, anyway.
The whole doll is a thick plastic with no poseability whatsoever. I didn't really know what I was expecting when I decided to buy this, but I knew that the mitten-shaped hands were a complete loss. Therefore, I decided that I can use the head and feet, at least, and with my Dremel I cut the feet off at the knee and the head off at the shirt collar.
I tried using isopropyl alcohol and acetone to remove the yellowed glue and yarn fibers at the top of the head, but it didn't quite work. I instead just sanded it down the best I could. I then wanted to remove the eyes, which was a lot easier than I was anticipating. I thought they were safety eyes, but looking inside the head there was no screw stem. They were mercifully just glued on! I popped them off with a chisel, and after finding them after they flew off into space, I set them aside to paint them and reuse them later. I then drilled some holes into the feet to make them into combat boots.
While I conducted this busy work I decided that, due to the lack of usable hands and no ears to speak of, I want to make this little one a bay boy. The body and wings will be a black velveteen I have lying around, and I will be spray painting the head and feet black to match. It was pouring rain today, so painting will have to wait for another day.
Time to draft the pattern for the body...
